Baron, winner of the VTB United League, announced his retirement at 33

Former St. Petersburg basketball player “Zenith » Billy Baron announced his retirement from his professional career.

Baron is 33 years old and played for the Blaugrana from 2020 to 2022. As part of Zenit, Baron won the VTB United League in the 2021/22 season.

“It’s not easy to stop fighting for something, especially when you’ve been doing it all your life.” I grew up in the locker room and fell in love with the game alongside my father’s teams. I experienced all the emotional ups and downs of the sport, which led me to become madly obsessed with it from a young age.

Unfortunately, last year I encountered the bad side of the game. It was an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Internally, I felt that I still had a few good years of career ahead of me, but I quickly realized that this was not the case. I had no idea how it would end.

I’m devastated by the scars I have, but I’m very grateful to have made it this far. From my road trip to Olean, New York, to Shanghai and the 35 countries in between, it’s been one hell of a trip.

Thanks to all the coaches I had. Thanks to Zenit and especially Javi Pascual for changing my approach to business. “Thank you to basketball,” Baron said in a statement on the social network.

In addition to Zenit, Baron defended the colors of Serbian Red Star, Italian Olimpia, Turkish Eskisehir, Spanish Murcia, Belgian Spira and Lithuanian Rytas.
