Dwayne became the first ex-Florida player to receive this honor.
Miami Heat opened monument to his legend, ex-basketball player Dwyane Wadenear the home arena of the Kaseyya Center team. He became the first player in Florida basketball history to receive this honor.
The hero of the occasion himself attended the opening of the monument and shared his impressions of what he saw:
“This is crazy. I wanted to feel it. Life goes by so quickly, and we very rarely have time to feel something, because we are always busy with something else. I wanted to feel it, buddy. I wanted to look at it.”
Wade, 42, is an NBA legend and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. He played for Miami from 2003 to 2019, with a two-year break for the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. The shooting guard became the NBA champion three times (2006, 2012, 2013 – all with the Heat), and became the 2008 Olympic champion as a member of the US national team.
Dwayne is the all-time leading scorer in Miami history, and one of six team legends (along with Udonis Haslem, Chris Bosh, Tim Hardaway, Shaquille O’Neal and Alonzo Mourning) to forever wear the #3 number.
After his career, Wade achieved success in the sports business. In April 2021, he became a co-owner of the Utah Jazz basketball franchise, and in 2022 he joined the group of owners of the Real Salt Lake football club, which plays in the MLS championship.
