The last time Rudy Gay took the floor was in the 2022/23 season.

The former forward of five NBA clubs Rudy Gay has announced his retirement.

The 38-year-old player announced his decision in an open letter, published in The Player’s Tribune.

“I feel so grateful for all the love, wisdom and friendship that I experienced in the game of basketball. Eighteen years in the league. Learned from some of the best to ever do it,” the basketball player wrote.

Rudy Gay was selected as the eighth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. However, he and Stromile Swift were traded to Memphis for Shane Battier.

In the NBA, Gay spent 17 seasons with five teams: Memphis, Toronto, Sacramento, San Antonio and Utah, where he last took the court in the 2022-23 season.

Before the start of the 2023-24 season, he signed a one-year contract with Golden State. But before he could make his debut for the new team, the player was fired in October 2023, after which he remained without a contract.

Rudy played 1,120 NBA games and averaged 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

He was named to the 2007 All-Rookie Team and was a two-time world champion with Team USA (2010, 2014).
