Popovich unable to lead San Antonio indefinitely due to health concerns – media

NBA head coach San Antonio Spurs Gregg Popovitch has encountered health problems and will not be able to lead the team, reports ESPN.

Assistant coach Mitch Johnson is expected to serve as interim head coach indefinitely.

Earlier, the club announced that Popovich, 75, had fallen ill before Saturday’s match against Minnesota (113:103).

Popovich is the leader among coaches in the number of NBA regular season wins (1,390), and he has also won an additional 170 playoff games. Since 1996, he has managed San Antonio, with whom he won the championship title five times.
