Israeli National Security Council calls on citizens not to attend Maccabi basketball game in Italy

Israel’s National Security Council called on citizens not to attend the eighth-round away match of the regular Euroleague championship against Bologna, the Times of Israel reports.

It was previously reported that Maccabi fans were attacked on Thursday in Amsterdam after the Europa League match against Ajax (0:5). The basketball match between Maccabi and Bologna will take place on Friday.

“Calls to harm Israelis and Jews continue on the Internet. This has sparked fears that similar attacks could be carried out during today’s match in Bologna.

In addition to telling Israelis to avoid today’s match, the Security Council says they should avoid wearing Jewish identifying symbols if possible, according to the report.

Amsterdam police earlier said five people were hospitalized and 62 arrested after the riot. An Israeli airline has announced that it will provide emergency flights for compatriots remaining in the Netherlands.
