Lawyer Maria Blagovolina told reporters that the American basketball player’s defense team Britney Greiner appealed against the verdict of the Khimki City Court.
On August 4, Greiner was sentenced in Russia to 9 years in general prison in a drug trafficking case and fined 1 million rubles.
The athlete was arrested on suspicion of trying to illegally import hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport in February, and a criminal case was opened for drug trafficking.
Greiner, 31, has been playing for UMMC Yekaterinburg since 2015, winning the Olympics twice as part of Team USA (2016, 2020).
