The National Basketball Association (NBA) is considering opening an investigation into the Philadelphia 76ers over the team’s possible attempts to reduce center Joel Embiid’s number of games. The club’s press service specifies that the 30-year-old basketball player is recovering from a knee injury.
According to ESPN, Philadelphia plans to limit Embiid’s participation in future matches to preserve his health, offering his leader additional days of rest and regular medical examinations throughout the 2024-2025 season.
Embiid hasn’t played a single preseason game and will almost certainly miss the first three games of the season. But under the rules, the NBA has the right to open an investigation if a basketball player misses a nationally televised game.
Last season, Joel Embiid played in 39 of 82 regular season games. In the 2022/2023 season, he was recognized as the most valuable player of the season in the NBA.
