Andrey Kirilenko on 3×3 basketball at Spartakiad: “For 6-7 years we have really made huge progress”

President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) Andrei Kirilenko commented on the results of the basketball tournament in the 3 × 3 discipline of the All-Russian Spartakiad.

Athletes from the Sverdlovsk region won the men’s competition, and representatives from Moscow won the women’s competition.

– For 6-7 years, we have really made huge progress in 3×3 basketball. He’s always been popular with us, but over the last 3-4 years he’s become very professional. If we used to have outbreaks of teams, now we have 8-9 teams consistently performing at a very high level. Members of these teams are constantly rotated into the national team and, in fact, the results have been medals for both men and women.

How is the Spartakiad different? The fact that these teams that play professionally play here in other rosters, because they represent their regions. It’s very interesting to watch. The same champion teams are broken: someone represents the Sverdlovsk region, someone represents the Moscow region. So it’s very cool, other combinations.

I congratulate the Sverdlovsk region, and for the girls, I congratulate Moscow, ”said the press service of the Russian Ministry of Sports quoting Kirilenko.
