“It’s good that the format of the Spartakiad has moved us away from traditional team compositions towards the national teams of the regions” – Andrey Kirilenko

President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) Andrei Kirilenko praised the level of competition on medal day at the All-Russian Spartakiad 3×3 Basketball Tournament.

The winners were the women’s team from Moscow and the men’s team from the Sverdlovsk region.

– It’s good that the Spartakiad format has moved us away from traditional teams to national teams of regions, – Kirilenko told a correspondent. – Everyone is used to playing in their permanent formations, but here we have new combinations. Previously, our Olympic medalists Kirill Pisklov and Alexander Zuev played together for the national team and for Gagarin. And then they turned out to be rivals – and what a great semi-final turned out! The final score of this match – 21:19 – does not lie. And in general, there was not a single overwhelming victory for Spartakiad on the last day of the 3×3 tournament. Even in the women’s final, where it looks like Moscow is obviously stronger than the Moscow region. And what do you think? There is no question of a confident victory, the basketball players of the Moscow region seized and imposed a fight to the end. As a result – 9:20 p.m.

– Has the Pisklov factor turned out to be magical for the Sverdlovsk region?

– Kirill – of course, well done, he had a great tournament. But I won’t say he was the only one who played for future champions. Everyone did their job, and Pisklov didn’t really stand out. The experienced Zakharov was useful, Beklemishev and Zabotin also had their moments, they tried. If you have a good goalscorer in your team, that’s fine, but after all, someone has to bring those balls to him, someone has to intercept in defense.

The 3×3 basketball tournament within the framework of the Spartakiad took place from August 19 to 21 in Moscow at the Pod Most site in Luzhniki.
