The US State Department did not support Rodman’s initiative to come to Russia in the Greiner case

US State Department spokesman Ned Price ruled out the option that the former NBA basketball star Denis Rodman will represent the American authorities during a trip to Russia on the Britney Griner case.

Earlier, Rodman, 61, announced his intention to come to Russia to help Greiner, who on August 4 was sentenced by the Khimki city court to 9 years in a penal colony in a drug trafficking case. The 31-year-old basketball player was arrested in February while trying to smuggle hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport.

– We learned from the media about Dennis Rodman’s desire to go to Russia. We emphasize that it is not authorized to do so by the United States government. A few weeks ago we received a message from Russia with a serious offer to release Paul Whelan and Britney Griner. And we believe that any further attempts in this direction will only hinder the implementation of our plan,” Price said during a regular briefing.

Greiner’s defense team in mid-August appealed the Khimki City Court’s verdict.
