Five-time National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Denis Rodman decided not to come to Russia to help an American basketball player convicted of drug trafficking Britney Greiner according to Yahoo Sports.
According to the source, the athlete made such a decision after the statement of the US State Department. The department said Rodman would not represent the US government on the trip – this played a decisive role for the basketball player.
Earlier, Rodman, 61, announced his intention to come to Russia to help Greiner, who on August 4 was sentenced by the Khimki city court to 9 years in a penal colony in a drug trafficking case.
The 31-year-old basketball player was arrested in February while trying to smuggle hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport. Greiner’s defense team appealed the court verdict in mid-August.
