Defender of the Moscow national team Daniil Kasatkin, after defeating Novosibirsk region in the final of the All-Russian Spartakiad (77:75), told about the reasons for the unsuccessful start of the meeting. The capital side were losing by a double-digit margin in the first half but clinched victory in the final quarter.
– Very satisfied. As they say in basketball: “One point is a victory, two is a rout.” It was a very difficult game. The guys from Novosibirsk are great, and we still have a lot to do to reduce the nerve endings. Somehow we underestimated the opponent, everyone considered us unconditional favorites and the opponents played on courage. They didn’t have much to lose, so they came out with no pressure and hit “their” shots right away. We started off very slowly, and then we had to somehow extract that energy from ourselves.
What changed in the second half?
It all starts with protection. When you defend well, it’s easier to initiate quick counterattacks, more freedom in attack. And when they score against us, they have time to stand in their own half and meet us. We began to defend ourselves better, to help each other, to encourage each other. They added energy – and everything worked.
In the match for 3rd place, the team of the Krasnodar Territory defeated the representatives of the Republic of Bashkortostan – 80:77.
The Summer Spartakiad will last until October 2. Competitions are held in 39 sports in 12 regions of the country.
