Basketball player Tikhonenko – about Spartakiad: “I’m glad that after a long pre-season the games have started”

Striker of the Sverdlovsk region basketball team Ksenia Tikhonenko believes that the reason for her high performance in the match with the Samara region team during the All-Russian Spartakiad of the Strongest was the long wait for the start of the season.

On Tuesday, basketball players from the Sverdlovsk team beat the team from the Samara region with the score of 78:58. Tikhonenko scored 21 points, also 10 rebounds.

“I’m happy that after a long pre-season the games have finally started,” Tikhonenko told a correspondent. — When you wait and wait a long time and then step out onto the court and play, a lot of emotions are released. Maybe all of this affected my performance. Thanks to our whole team, everyone looked good today. We are in shape.

– On the one hand, you seem to play for the same UMMC, on the other hand, Spartakiad, a purely Russian team. What does it do?

It’s like playing for the national team. Ksyusha Levchenko, Nastya Shilova, Masha Vadeeva – we have all known each other for a long time and we feel great. It’s good! And without legionnaires, we play in the Russian Cup. Admittedly, it takes place in the middle of the season and the Spartakiad takes place in August, when basketball players are usually just starting to get in shape before the new season. And this is something new.

— Who do you see as your main competitors in the fight for gold?

– Kursk region and Moscow – as usual. We all three climbed on the podium of the last Russian championship. But there are other strong teams – it will all depend on who is fitter.

The Spartakiad women’s basketball tournament runs from August 30 to September 5 in Moscow.
