Vice President of the Turkish Basketball Federation Omer Onan said that after the European Championship match with the national team Georgia (83:88 OT) the Georgian side caused a mass brawl. The match took place in Tbilisi.
– When Furkan Korkmaz was walking along the corridor leading to the locker room with our coach, the Georgian national team players attacked him with a distant player (Duda Sanadze), the police also participated in the attack. At the end of the match, 30 police officers provoked a fight. We had to start fighting them,” Eurohoops Onan quotes.
National team coach Turkey Hakan Demir also confirmed the attack on the Korkmaz team player.
After the match, Turkey lodged a protest against the final result of the match, justifying its position with the fact that after the incident with Korkmaz and Sanadze, 22 seconds were removed from playing time.
