The team of Ainars Bagatskis, after the victories against Great Britain and Estonia in the preliminary rounds, also celebrated the victory in the rivalry with the Italians, who are considered the favorites of the confrontation.
The Ukrainian national team took revenge for the recent defeat from Italy in the selection for the World Cup, defeating the opponents this time with a score of 84:73.
The teams went to the big break with the advantage of the Italians 38:42. However, in the third quarter the Ukrainians managed to equalize the situation – 57:57, and in the last part of the match they put the squeeze on the opponent with a margin of +11.
Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk became the most productive member of the Ukrainian national team with 25 points. Also, Issuf Sanon and Ivan Tkachenko scored 17 points each.
