FIBA acknowledged serious refereeing errors in two matches of the EuroBasket 2022 group stage

The referees made a mistake in the matches Lithuania – Germany and Turkey – Georgia

International Basketball Federation (FIBA) officially admitted refereeing mistakes in two group stage matches EuroBasket 2022 – Lithuania – Germany and Turkey – Georgia.

“The first incident occurred during the match between Lithuania and Germany, when the referees and secretaries did not allow a well-deserved free throw after a technical foul. FIBA has decided that all three referees and the match commissioner will no longer work until the end of the tournament.”

“The second incident was a timing error during the Turkey-Georgia match. After expert analysis, it was concluded that the referees stopped the timer, however, a special device on the back of the referee was accidentally activated by one of the players when the referee was separating the players during the incident on the court, ”the organization said in a statement.

Recall that Germany beat Lithuania in overtime (109:107), while Turkey also lost to Georgia in overtime (83:88). The results of these games will not be reviewed.

The Ukrainian national basketball team in the 1/8 finals of EuroBasket 2022 will play against the Polish team.

The match will take place on September 11th. The start of the match, which will be held in Berlin, is 13:00 Kyiv time.
