Everything was decided by the failure in the third quarter
Team of Ukraine lost Poland in the match of the 1/8 finals of the 2022 European Basketball Championship.
Our team lost the first quarter – 21:24, but in the second quarter they managed not only to win back the gap, but also to go for a long break with a three-point advantage – 45:42.
In the third quarter, the teams were level for a long time – 14:14, but then the Poles succeeded in a breakthrough 6:0, but the Ukrainians reduced the gap with the efforts of Tkachenko and Sanon. True, the blue-yellows could not keep the desired score: the quarter ended with the victory of the Poles 27:22, and Ukraine left for the last break, losing in the score 67:69.
At the start of the final quarter, thanks to accurate three-pointers from Tkachenko and Mikhailyuk, Ukraine took the lead – 76:74. However, as in the third quarter, the Ukrainians allowed the opponent not only to level the score, but also to break away – 78:84. The final minutes of the match turned out to be quite dramatic, but the Poles, having an advantage of four points, brought the match to victory.
In the 1/4 finals, the Polish team will play with the national team of Slovenia. The match will take place on September 14 in Berlin, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Slovenia in the group stage beat the teams of Lithuania, Hungary, Germany and France, losing to the team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the 1/8 finals, the Slovenes beat Belgium – 88:72.
