Head coach of the basketball team Ukraine Ainars Bagatskis commented on the 1/8 final match EuroBasket 2022 from the Polish team. The mentor of the blue-yellows noted the low realization of their capabilities.
“It was a difficult game, which we expected. This is how it should be in the playoffs. The whole match was difficult, especially in terms of attack, for both teams.”
“I would say that the reason for our defeat is attack, not defense. At EuroBasket, we were not the best defensive team, but for some of our decisions in attack, losses, the Poles immediately punished us.”
“The Poles offered us a defense where we could make a lot of open 3-point shots from corners. We expected this, but did not implement most of them. My greetings to the Polish team.
We didn’t have many losses. We defended against the Poles, shutting down their best players. But their throws did not hit.
“The score was almost always equal, with the exception of only the last minute. One good defense, a good shot and we would be back in the game. But it didn’t work out.”
Mikhailyuk and Sanon are high-level players, professionals. One of them has a lot of NBA experience. For Issouf Sanon it was the best tournament, he showed the best quality basketball, which only he had to this day. But that is not his limit, he has no limits at all.”
Ukraine lost to Poland and dropped out of the further draw of EuroBasket-2022. Sanon and Bobrov became the most productive in the blue-and-yellow teams, who scored 17 points each.
In the 1/4 finals, the Polish team will play with the national team of Slovenia. The match will take place on September 14 in Berlin, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
