The President of the champions Vladimir Dubinsky showed a principled position in relations with the federation.

Champion of Ukraine in basketball – Prometheus, will not play in the next draw of the Ukrainian Superleague. The president of the team Vladimir Dubinsky wrote about it on his page in the social network.

According to the functionary, the reason for leaving the championship was the federation’s decision to increase the application fee for Prometheus from UAH 40,000 to UAH 4.5 million. This happened because the club will play in the Eurocup, and not in tournaments under the auspices of FIBA.

“Today I have to turn to you sad news about our club’s participation in the Ukrainian basketball championship of the 2022/2023 season.

Beginning in August of this year, the Prometheus basketball club, despite all organizational, security and financial difficulties, began to prepare for participation in the future basketball championship of Ukraine. The club fully formed the team, provided accommodation for the players and staff of the Club, arranged meals for the athletes, rented a game room where the team trained.

But, unfortunately, even in very difficult times for our country and the whole sport, there are those in the Basketball Federation of Ukraine who put their ambitions or private interests above the general interest of the basketball society and the state in total

So, on September 13, under the leadership of the President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine, Mr. Mikhail Brodsky, who left for Italy since the beginning of the war, a meeting of the FBU Executive Committee was held using a Zoom conference, where a decision with discrimination for our basketball club “Prometheus” was almost unanimously adopted. For all clubs participating in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship, an application fee of UAH 40,000.00 is set. and exclusively for the basketball club Prometheus, this contribution amounted to UAH 4,500,000.00, which is more than 100 times higher than the fees for other clubs.

Our club expresses its anger at the situation that has developed in Ukrainian basketball and categorically declares unacceptable selective, discriminatory and biased treatment of any of the Member Clubs of the basketball community. We emphasize that the main principle of any sports competition is the principle of fair play, which implies the equality of all participants.

We sincerely hope that the President of the FBU Mikhail Brodsky will join the Ukrainian people as soon as possible and return to Ukraine, and understand how difficult it is now to organize the training process and find funds to support the clubs , and also understand the condition of athletes and coaches. which is under constant threat of missiles. shelling, they want to play, and do not rely on the shameful and biased decisions of the FBU.

Today, I have to tell a sad truth – the club, which is the flagship of Ukrainian basketball, the current champion of Ukraine, the club that last year, with its games and victories, raised the rating of Ukraine to 16th line of Basketball Champions. The League, which scored a record number of points for the country, now through actions and decisions FBU was actually thrown out of the championship of Ukraine.

Basketball club Prometheus will not take part in the XXXII Ukrainian Basketball Championship among men’s teams in the 2022/2023 season, if the Basketball Federation of Ukraine does not remove the manifestations of bias and discrimination against our club.

We stayed in the country, we continue to work and do everything for our common success, the Club continues to represent Ukraine in the international arena.

It hurts and it’s terrible, but we have no other choice,” Dubinsky wrote.
