“In this situation, there are no clear guidelines. We acted according to our conscience and our intuition. Celtics owner on suspension of head coach Udoka

Owner of a basketball club “Boston Celtics” Vic Groesbeck says the decision to dismiss head coach Ime Udoka came after a months-long investigation into his behavior by an independent law firm.

Earlier on Friday, the press service of the NBA club Boston Celtics announced Udoka’s suspension for the 2022/23 season.

“It is a moment of concern, reflection and action. This decision seems correct to us, but there are no clear guidelines for all this. We acted on our conscience and our intuition,” Groesbeck told The New York Times.

Groesbeck did not divulge the details of the Udoka case, explaining it as confidentiality and limiting himself to the only remark that the coach violated the rules of the company’s internal policy. However, a person familiar with the situation noted that the 45-year-old specialist had an inappropriate relationship with a female member of the team.

Groesbeck also said that Udok would not be paid during the suspension and that Joe Mazzulla, one of the assistant coaches, would temporarily manage the team. According to Groesbeck, a decision on Udoka’s long-term fate at the club has yet to be made.

Udoka took charge of the Celtics in the summer of 2021. Last season, the Boston club reached the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors.
