VTB United League champion Karasev: ‘The realization of victory came after kissing the cup’

Champion of the VTB United League as part of St. Petersburg “Zenith” Sergei Karasev admitted that he didn’t believe in the team’s victory until he kissed the tournament cup.

In the final round of the VTB League playoffs last season, Zenit defeated CSKA with an aggregate score of 3–4. The Saint Petersburg club, founded in 2014, won the tournament for the first time in history. In 11 of the previous 12 seasons, the Moscow army team became the winner.

– It was I who came to the realization of victory after kissing the cup. At first everything was chaotic, incomprehensible emotions, euphoria, loss of strength. I have told many that this is what we live for, we hurt, we train and spend our health on. I figured it all out in 15-20 minutes after the final siren.

There was no chance in the first game of the final. Even at one point the thought crossed my mind that it couldn’t be 4-0 anymore. To some extent, we then exhausted ourselves. Too many stakes, too much attention was given to the game with CSKA. If we keep playing like this, then everything will end quickly,” Karasyov said on .
