The DP World Tour has announced a new date for the 2027 BMW PGA Championship, pushing the tournament back a week to accommodate the Ryder Cup, as part of a series of significant schedule changes for next year's calendar.
The BMW PGA Championship, traditionally held in the second week of September, will now take place from September 23-26 at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
Ryder Cup reshapes the calendar
The change comes as the 2027 Ryder Cup is set to be played at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland, from September 17-19. The Ryder Cup is the biennial team event contested between Europe and the United States, and its scheduling has forced several other tournaments to shift.
The FedEx Open de France will also move, taking place September 9-12 at Le Golf National, directly preceding the Ryder Cup. The Amgen Irish Open, which was played in the first week of September in 2026, will instead be held from July 1-4 at The K Club.
Three national opens return
The DP World Tour also confirmed the return of three national opens to its calendar, a step it described as significant in its plans to grow the tour. The Hong Kong Open will return after a seven-year absence, with the Deutsche Bank Singapore Open also added back to the 2027 schedule. The Open de Portugal | Cascais-Lisboa will likewise return.
DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings confirmed the tour will host 17 national opens across the 2027 season as a result. "The return of historic national Opens in Singapore and Portugal means 17 prestigious national Opens will feature on our 2027 global schedule, along with other popular international championships and events played around the world," Kinnings said.
"As Golf's Global Tour, we are proud to provide this unique platform for our members to showcase their talents as they compete to put their own name alongside some of the iconic champions of our sport. It is a schedule that offers incredible international opportunities for existing and new players and one which will appeal to our fans globally."
Lowry backs national opens
Shane Lowry, who won last week's Amgen Irish Open, stressed the importance of having national opens on the DP World Tour calendar, speaking ahead of the BMW PGA Championship.
"National Opens are huge, whether it's the French Open or the Spanish Open or around the world," Lowry said. "It's a nice feather in your cap to say you've won a National Open."
A packed global season
The DP World Tour is the European-based men's professional golf tour, whose season culminates in the Race to Dubai points standings. The 2027 season will feature 42 tournaments across 24 countries.
The calendar begins with the Opening Swing in late November 2026, running through the BMW Australian PGA Championship, the Capital.com Australian Open, the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open, before moving into the International Swing across the Middle East and Africa in January and February.
The Asian Swing includes the returning Deutsche Bank Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club from April 15-18, alongside the Volvo China Open and the Turkish Airlines Open. The European Swing runs from May through June and includes the returning Open de Portugal | Cascais-Lisboa at Oitavos Dunes Links Golf from May 13-16.
The Closing Swing takes in the rescheduled Amgen Irish Open at The K Club, the Genesis Scottish Open, and The Open at the Old Course in St Andrews. The Back 9 section of the calendar runs from the Husqvarna British Masters in August through to the returning Hong Kong Open at Hong Kong Golf Club from October 21-24, alongside the rescheduled FedEx Open de France, the Ryder Cup and the BMW PGA Championship. The season concludes with the DP World Tour Play-Offs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November.
