Bryson DeChambeau has fueled speculation that he is leaving LIV Golf after posting a cryptic message on social media to mark the end of the 2026 season. On Monday, the American shared a series of photographs from his tournament victories over recent years and wrote, "It was a good run."
DeChambeau is one of golf's most popular and polarizing players and has been a leading figure on LIV Golf since joining the Saudi-backed breakaway tour. His current contract, reportedly worth more than $100 million, runs until the end of the 2026 season.
The post comes as LIV Golf fights for its future after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it would stop funding the tour beyond this year. The news sent shockwaves across golf and plunged the futures of several major names, including DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, into doubt.
LIV's search for new investment
LIV CEO Scott O'Neil recently revealed that the tour has secured new investment to keep it afloat beyond this season. He said last week that he "certainly hopes" DeChambeau will remain on the tour, but he was unable to confirm whether the American will stay with LIV once his current deal expires.
The 2026 LIV Golf season came to a premature end in Indianapolis last week after the individual and team championship was canceled. Following the season finale, DeChambeau hinted that he could stick with the tour as it transitions to what he called "LIV 2.0."
"It has been an interesting ride, that's for sure, everything we've gone through, and the tough moments we've had. It's made us stronger," DeChambeau said. "As much as we are transitioning from LIV 1.0 to LIV 2.0, I have great thoughts about what could happen next year. I wish I could be more upfront about it."
"Ultimately I'm proud of the fact of what we've done, the good and some of the bad that we've unfortunately had, things that have occurred, I'm going to be real with it, not everything was perfect," he continued. "But for the most part we've done a solid job and if there's one thing I could say, we did something different in the game of golf and I'm proud of that."
At the end of the interview, DeChambeau added: "I think there's something fun coming."
Reports of a $500 million demand
Reports in April claimed DeChambeau held talks about leaving LIV Golf during the Masters, with the American said to have been demanding up to $500 million to stay with the tour. The Masters is one of golf's four major championships, held annually at Augusta National in Georgia.
A tough road back to the PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka, another high-profile defector to LIV, returned to the PGA Tour earlier this year. But Rory McIlroy, a four-time major winner, recently suggested other LIV players could face a difficult path back.
"I'm pretty sure they aren't going to be welcomed back straight away," McIlroy said. "They were offered this returning member program back in February, the one Brooks took, but that has come and gone and I think it was said at the time that the deal they get going forward if they decide to come back would not be as good as the one Brooks got. So I'd say it will be a tough road back."
