Celtic secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Austrian side LASK at Celtic Park to move closer to the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Colombian forward Camilo Duran scored twice after Benjamin Nygren opened the scoring with a spectacular half-volley, giving manager Martin O'Neill's side a significant advantage ahead of next week's second leg in Austria.
The victory puts the Scottish champions in an enviable position to secure the financial windfall associated with qualification for Europe's elite competition. Celtic navigate a free weekend before travelling to northern Austria next Tuesday to protect their three-goal buffer.
The win reflected vindication for Celtic supporters who had grown dissatisfied with the club hierarchy's recent transfer strategy. Celtic spent £30 million in the transfer window on key additions, including Duran, Kasper Hogh, Haissem Hassan, and Mika Baur, while remaining in financial surplus.
Duran arrived for £5.5 million from Azerbaijani club Qarabag, where he scored five goals in European competition last season. Danish striker Hogh also scored five times for Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt during the previous campaign before moving to Glasgow.

O'Neill's Champions League return
The match marked a significant European evening for O'Neill, who last managed in the Champions League group stage 22 seasons ago. Known for his cautious approach, the veteran Northern Irish manager insisted nothing would be taken for granted despite his team's commanding lead.
O'Neill handed summer signing Baur his first start alongside club captain Callum McGregor in central midfield. Hyun-jun Yang and Duran provided width on the flanks, supporting Nygren and Hogh in attack, while young full-back Colby Donovan started on the right ahead of Anthony Ralston.
LASK presented a physical challenge at Celtic Park. Manager Dietmar Kuhbauer fielded a robust side led by American centre-forward Samuel Adeniran, who required constant attention from United States international defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Early pressure from Austrian double winners
Kuhbauer had promised his side would attack, and the Austrian double winners threatened immediately. Just 31 seconds into the match, Moses Usor struck powerfully with his left foot into the net, but the assistant referee raised an offside flag.
Shortly after, Adeniran broke through the Celtic defense but dragged his shot wide of the post without an offside call. LASK restricted Celtic's passing channels, causing early anxiety among the home crowd as visiting captain Sascha Horvath evaded McGregor to set up Adeniran, whose shot was saved by goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo.

Celtic initially struggled to establish their tempo. Nygren fired a free-kick directly into the defensive wall, and Duran scuffed an effort straight to LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth. Miscommunication also saw Duran lose possession following a cross-field pass from Donovan, while LASK defender Andres Andrade intercepted a loose ball inside the penalty area just ahead of Hogh.
Nygren opens the scoring
Celtic broke the deadlock midway through the first half with a fluid team movement. Duran cut inward from the right wing before Baur controlled the ball under pressure and distributed it wide to Yang. The South Korean winger linked with Kieran Tierney, whose precise cross was initially headed away by Horvath.
The clearance fell to Nygren on the edge of the penalty box. The Swedish midfielder struck the ball cleanly on the half-volley with his left foot, sending it past Jungwirth into the net to give Celtic the lead.
Following the goal, Celtic gained momentum, with Donovan making key sliding tackles to halt LASK attacks. However, the visitors threatened again when wing-back George Bello got past Donovan and crossed for Adeniran to head home, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.
Duran doubles Celtic's advantage
Celtic extended their lead seven minutes before half-time through another high-pressing move. Tierney intercepted a clearance and delivered a cross into the penalty area. Hogh competed in the air against Andrade, and the defender's header dropped to Duran lurking near the edge of the box.

The Colombian forward struck a clean left-foot volley into the corner of the net, leaving Jungwirth with no chance and sending Celtic into the interval with a 2-0 lead.
Duran seals three-goal victory
Early in the second half, Baur forced Jungwirth into a save with a dipping long-range effort before being substituted for Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate. Hogh continued to work relentlessly upfront as LASK pushed forward to reduce the deficit.
Celtic nearly scored a third when McGregor's deflected shot struck the post, earning applause from O'Neill on the sideline. LASK responded immediately as Usor volleyed over the crossbar from Horvath's pass over the defense before Sinisalo denied Usor with a low save using his outstretched leg.
In the 68th minute, Celtic secured their third goal. Hogh switched play across the pitch to launch a counter-attack into the final third. Duran passed to Nygren, received a return pass in space, and launched a powerful strike into the top left corner of the net.
With players tiring late in the match, O'Neill utilized his full allocation of substitutes. Late replacement Hassan helped retain possession and relieve pressure as Celtic managed the remaining minutes.
Celtic will take a 3-0 advantage into next Tuesday's return fixture in Austria, holding a strong position to advance to the Champions League group stage.
