Polish striker Dawid Kurminowski has completed a move to Greek Super League newcomer Kalamata FC after terminating his contract with Lechia Gdansk. Kalamata FC announced the transfer on social media, describing the 27-year-old as a killer who adds experience, quality, and proven effectiveness to their forward line.
The Greek club noted that Kurminowski represented Poland at every youth national team level and recalled his successful stint in Slovakia. Kalamata FC is returning to the Greek top flight after spending a quarter of a century in lower divisions, having last won promotion under Polish manager Jacek Gmoch when his team finished third in Beta Ethniki during the 1998/99 season.
Contract clause and transfer history
Kurminowski became a free agent by activating a release clause in his contract following Lechia Gdansk's relegation from the Ekstraklasa. He recorded 3 goals in 23 league appearances as the coastal club failed to avoid relegation. Lechia official Paolo Urfer accepted the striker's exit, citing financial risks associated with a potential adverse decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport while the club appealed a five-point penalty for financial irregularities.
Lechia Gdansk originally acquired Kurminowski from Zaglebie Lubin for half a million euros. During a two-year spell at Zaglebie Lubin, he scored 20 league goals after joining initially on loan. That stint followed a move to Danish side Aarhus GF for one million euros, which came after he scored 26 goals across all competitions for Slovak club MSK Zilina.
During the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons at MSK Zilina, Kurminowski played alongside fellow Polish prospect Jakub Kiwior. While Kiwior progressed through Spezia to Arsenal and later joined FC Porto, Kurminowski moved to Denmark before returning to Poland and subsequently signing in Greece.
