Real Madrid announced its squad numbers for the 2026/27 season on Monday, and Brazilian forward Endrick has been given the number 9 shirt, a number traditionally worn by the club's center forwards.
Endrick was loaned to Lyon in January 2026 after struggling for playing time at Real Madrid. The move was meant to give the striker more minutes on the pitch as he tried to earn a place in Brazil's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The plan worked. Endrick got more playing time in French football during his loan spell and was called up to play for Brazil at the World Cup.
Future still uncertain
Despite receiving the number 9 shirt for the new season, Endrick's place in Real Madrid's squad is not guaranteed. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, the forward has received two proposals to leave the club during this transfer window.
The Spanish press has not ruled out another loan move. Real Madrid is still weighing the player's future as he looks to secure a regular spot under the team's coach.
Path to Madrid
Endrick joined Real Madrid in 2024 from Palmeiras, signing a long-term contract and joining the club's professional squad while still a teenager.
