Portuguese football club Estrela da Amadora announced that work to completely replace the pitch at Estádio José Gomes will begin on Tuesday, 22 September.
The decision follows a new interdiction of the stadium by the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional, which forced the club to play two recent home matches at borrowed grounds after the pitch failed multiple inspections.
In an official statement published on its website, the club explained that the full replacement comes in response to severe difficulties experienced with the playing surface in recent weeks.
League pitch ban and venue changes
The Portuguese professional football league prohibited matches at the Amadora venue after the turf received two negative evaluations and subsequently failed a follow-up inspection.
The stadium closure forced the club to host its recent domestic fixtures away from its traditional home ground in the Reboleira area of Amadora.
Estrela da Amadora hosted Sporting de Braga in Alverca, where the team earned a 2-1 victory, before hosting Académico de Viseu in Rio Maior, resulting in a 2-0 defeat.
Return to Reboleira for Casa Pia clash
The club is scheduling the pitch installation to ensure the playing surface is fully restored before its next scheduled home match.
Estrela da Amadora is scheduled to host Casa Pia on 24 October at 15:30 in the ninth round of the Portuguese I Liga.
Given the time window available before the October fixture, club officials expressed confidence that no further venue changes will be necessary for future home games.
The club stated that it looks forward to welcoming supporters back to Estádio José Gomes when the tricolor team resumes its home schedule in Reboleira.
