Ex-coach Gornyakov worries about Ukrainian football players who cannot return to their homes
Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi said that one day he wants to return to Ukraine and train again Miner.
“It’s still an open wound for me. It was very hard to leave Shakhtar. After I leave Brighton, I want to coach Shakhtar again – one day I want to come back. It was very sad and unfair how it all ended.”
“So we were here, sitting together, and the next day it was all over. It hurts me, there are still bombs and shelling hundreds of meters from where I lived. It hurts to see my former players who can’t go home while I’m here in the Premier League at the same time.”
De Zerbi led Shakhtar in the 2021/22 season. The Italian won the Ukrainian Super Cup and was also in first place with the team when the championship was halted due to a full-blown Russian invasion. After leaving the club, De Zerbi said that his thoughts are still with Shakhtar and the Ukrainians.
In mid-September, De Zerby took charge of Brighton. The ex-coach Pitmen’s team is in seventh place in the Premier League. Brighton will play Brentford away on 14 October.
