Lucescu: Players know that they are expected to achieve results, and this only increases their stiffness

Kievans failed to beat Vorskla

Coach Dynamo Mircea Lucescu commented on the draw with Vorskla (1:1) in the 9th round of the UPL. The coach of the Kyiv club focused on problems with emancipation – according to Lucescu, this is what prevented him from achieving victory.

“We lost two points against a team that played against us with great motivation. This is what Vorskla lacked in the previous two meetings. Against us, all rivals are seriously tuned in, and we must always play 100 percent.”

“I would like to make the following points. Physically, we looked good, and withstood the whole game in terms of physics. But in terms of concentration, we looked the same as in previous matches. A large number of marriages in the transfers, especially in the middle line. Were not getting ahead in first gear. We had to use our defenders to start attacks and deliver the ball to the players in the attack. But we made a lot of mistakes and lost a lot of goals.”

“I can’t blame Karavaev for the episode with a goal not scored, when he didn’t hit an empty net. It’s not his fault. But this moment shows a situation with a lack of concentration and stiffness in the actions of the players. The same applies to the missed goal, which resulted in inconsistency in actions. The pass from Neshcheret was not to the central zone, where our players were, but to the flank, from where the opponent’s attack began. Then we let the opponent play in our penalty area and lost duels. Little things like that make up the game, the result. As in previous matches, there were big individual mistakes.”

“It is important how quickly we can get out of this state. Players know that they are expected to perform, and this only increases their stiffness. This leads to a lack of courage in crucial moments when you need to take risks – there is a fear of taking risks and making mistakes. There is also a lack of key players – Bushchan, Zabarny, and even more so Shaparenko. In this situation, the responsibility lies with the most experienced players – Tsygankov, Sidorchuk and Buyalsky. This creates difficulties for them.”

“It should be noted that today was a tough, male fight. Maybe the referee missed a couple of fouls. It makes the players nervous. If we return to the previous game, then there was a penalty on Tymchik. Also removing Zabarny: Sirota in that situation was three meters away from him. Refereeing mistakes also lead to players’ nervousness. Today there were moments that could be interpreted more clearly. In our favor. And these moments also affect the players purely psychologically. Our game suffers from this. Hence these mistakes and nervousness.”

The Kyiv club takes eighth place in the UPL. Lucescu’s team scored 10 points in seven games played.

On October 30, the white-and-blues will host Kryvbas in the next round of the Ukrainian Championship.
