However, Roman does not rule out such an option in the future.
Ukrainian striker Roman Zozulya announced that he did not plan to take part in the next UAF presidential elections. However, Roman stressed that he does not completely rule out the decision to run for the post of head of the Association in the future.
“Since the last 24 hours information has been actively spreading in the media that I am applying for the presidency of the UAF, I think that I should clarify my position.”
“Firstly, while the war is going on in Ukraine, I don’t see an opportunity to do something else, except how to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and my country. Secondly, I have not yet completed my career as a football player, although it has faded into the background for the objective reasons described above.
“Thirdly, I don’t plan to engage in behind-the-scenes agreements behind the back of the incumbent president of the UAF. If I decide to nominate my candidacy for the UAF President, I will announce it publicly.”
“However, I will be disingenuous if I say that I never thought about it. Of course, as an active player, I have my own vision of the development of Ukrainian football. In addition, having played abroad for a long time, there are many ideas that I would like to adopt and implement in Ukraine.
“But everything has its time. The only victory I dream of today is the victory of Ukraine, and we will win the elections later.”
Recall that in 2017 Pavelko was re-elected president of the FFU (the former name of the UAF). Due to a full-scale war, the UAF presidential elections were postponed indefinitely from March. Apart from Pavelko, no one submitted his candidacy, however, the media reported on the desire of Roman Zozulya to run for office.
In September, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ruled that the Ukrainian Football Association was prohibited from preparing, holding and considering at the reporting and electoral XXV Congress of the UAF the agenda items regarding the election of the President of the UAF, the election of first vice-presidents, vice-presidents, members of the Executive committee and audit body of the UAF.
The reporting and election congress of the UAF was planned approximately for the second half of September. The congress was supposed to re-elect the current president of the UAF Andriy Pavelko for a new five-year term.
Zozuli’s last club was the Spanish Fuenlabrada. In the summer off-season, the striker became a free agent.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, Zozulya has regularly provided material assistance to the Ukrainian army. Roman has already sent several armored vehicles to Ukraine to help the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also joined the Supervisory Board for the distribution of funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Spanish Embassy in Ukraine.
