Dynamo Kyiv’s head coach shared his expectations from the team’s final European Cup match this season.
Dynamo suffered a lot because of the war and the team did not deserve to end up in last place in the Europa League group. This was said at a press conference before the match against Fenerbahce by the head coach of the Kyiv club, Mircea Lucescu. In addition, the specialist noted the strength of the Turkish team.
“Fenerbahce has got a lot of very good players with a lot of experience playing for their national teams. They are making a lot of effort to build a quality team. Istanbul has 25 players of the same level, none they division into first and reserve teams.. All players are very good and experienced, many are in their 30s. Among the youth, only Güler and Mor are playing.
We have the opposite situation – we lost important players, we have young players. The roster has five players under the age of 20. I think we made the mistake of playing charity games too hard in the spring. In addition, the collections are busy with their national teams. We started the Champions League qualification very well, but lost to a big team, Benfica, who also had a lot of good transfers. Since losing to Benfica, our players started to lose motivation and points in the championship.
We did not lose because our opponents were stronger than us. Individual moments decided everything: in Istanbul they conceded in the last minutes, lost to AEK because of a free-kick, Rennes – by giving the opponents the ball after mistakes. Our players are in a very difficult situation. Every two days we change cities, stadiums, we don’t have a permanent place for the training process, we don’t see our fans.
We have one goal – to survive in this situation and maintain the best level that can be maintained. One day the war will end, and Dynamo must remain at its level. It is a brand, a club with great history and successful traditions.
We are in last place in the group, but I don’t think we deserve that.
After the match in Istanbul, we lost Buschan and Shaparenko, two very important players for us. Shaparenko, who was our best player, was out of football for six months.
As for Bushchan, he is back and training with the team. Let’s see if he can play, or will we use Neshcheret again. We have a very young team and I am sure they will be motivated for this match. The best way to compete with experienced opponents is to be prepared and knowledgeable. Fenerbahce has a lot of experienced, high quality, capable and fast players. But we know very well the strengths of each opponent to neutralize them,” Lucescu quoted Dynamo’s official website as saying.
It will be remembered that today, November 3, the match of the sixth round of the Europa League group stage Dynamo – Fenerbahce will take place. The match will take place in Krakow, Poland. The starting whistle for the teams will sound at 22:00 Kyiv time.
