The Shakhtar midfielder spoke about how he remains fit during the war and about the future prospects of football.

As you know, since the beginning of Putin’s army’s massive invasion of Ukraine, there have been no sporting competitions in the country.

The football championship is no exception. The championship ended when most teams were only able to play 18 games. The players left and trained themselves.

Shakhtar’s young midfielder and Ukrainian national team Georgiy Sudakov spoke in an interview with Suspilna about how to keep sports well in difficult times and about the future prospects of football in Ukraine.

“The whole time I was in Kyiv, I didn’t think about football. I thought about how to ensure the safety of the family, how we could leave to be safe. Then, when I got to Lviv, I started to think more about the future, about football, what we need to continue training.

Yes, there is a war going on right now, but I am a professional footballer. I can’t waste time. I try to think, but it’s hard. Now, in general, we only practice one at a time or sometimes we are able to play football with someone.

I played one against the Arena Lviv. We recently played for the Ukrainian U-21 team against Serbia. We won 2-1 and I scored the decisive goal. This is probably one of the most amazing games in my career, which is very notable. Incredible atmosphere in Lviv. Here people live for football. There was a quarantine, and it was impossible for the fans to come. But they let us play. And there were probably ten thousand people in the stadium. We had a lot of fun from the match, being high on football. When you remember these emotions, it becomes very difficult. I want to go back and feel again.

I don’t think they will play this season. In my opinion, now even many teams have no funds, and it seems to me that there will be no football in Ukraine in the near future.

Professional athletes can now support Ukraine with financial assistance and humanitarian assistance. In general, not only athletes, but all celebrities need to make this situation public so that the whole world knows what is going on here. In Russia, they lie to the people, for all of them there is some kind of military operation here, and we have a real war. You can’t keep quiet about it, ”Sudakov said.
