Coach Ingulets – about the performances of the team from Petrovo and Ukrainian clubs in Europe
Former midfielder of Dnipro, Kryvbas and a number of Ukrainian clubs, now part of the coaching staff of Ingulets, Mladen Bartulovich appreciated the performance of his team in the first third of the championship, and also shared his opinion on the results of the spring part of the European Cup for Ukrainian clubs.
– Mladen, how would you rate the current form of Ingulets? You are now in the UPL in 15th place with 7 points in the asset.
– After the match with Zorya, I can say that at the moment, in principle, Ingulets is in a good shape. In October, we had very difficult fights with the same Vorskla, Kolos, Dnepr-1. In the matches with Kolos and Dnepr-1, I think we showed good football. Especially with Dnipro, we managed to show good football.
We lost to Kryvbas in a match where, in principle, there was an even game until the red card. After sending off, they conceded two goals and lost the match. The miner lost in the case. But in the match with Zorya they showed good football. And, I think, we achieved a well-deserved long-awaited victory in the duel with the Luhansk team. But I want to note that, of course, I want to have more points in my reserve. In many fights we could score more points, but the situation is what it is. But it is still possible to fix and score points in every game.
– You played draws with Kolos (0:0) and Metalist (1:1). They also painted a world match with the leader of the UPL Dnipro-1 (2:2) and just the other day they beat Zorya (1:0). That is, in all matches with the leaders, except for the duel with Shakhtar, Ingulets took points. How would you comment on this?
– Yes, you are right in saying that we played well with almost all the leading teams and scored points. Maybe somewhere it’s easier to play number two when you need to defend well and run away to the counterattack, where there is space. We can use our qualities on fast attacks. Therefore, we got such a result in fights with teams from the leading group. We will continue to work to score points not only with the leaders, but also with our competitors.

– Maybe Ingulets has a better attitude towards teams from the top of the standings?
I don’t think it depends on the mood. It depends on the match itself, on the construction of the game on counterattacks or the first number, the ability to play in positional attacks. I think it depends more.

– Before the winter holidays, you have to play with Lvov and Metalist 1925 (your competitors at the moment). Ingulets will also play with Veres and Dynamo. What is the mood of the team for these matches?
– All games are difficult, and we prepare equally for all opponents. As this championship of Ukraine shows, any team can take away points from anyone. Also, we continue to tune in to each game. The next meeting we have with Metallist 1925, and we only think about it. We are purposefully preparing for this game. It is important for us, like all other fights.
– How would you rate the performance of Ukrainian teams in European competitions? What will you highlight?
– Dynamo did not make it out of the group, and this, of course, is bad for Ukraine’s rating in the UEFA coefficients table and for the Kyiv team itself. Although, I think that Dynamo in the Europa League had a group from which it was possible to leave further. Therefore, their performance can be assessed as unsuccessful. And Shakhtar and Dnepr-1 performed very well. The miners performed particularly well. They fought until the final round for a place in the playoffs of the Champions League. It’s good that Shakhtar and Dnipro-1 will continue playing in European competitions. I can only say that they are great. I wish them good luck and go as far as possible.
– What can you say about Igor Jovićević’s work with Shakhtar, in particular in the Champions League? Did you communicate with him during the group stage of the Champions League? Maybe they said when they played in the Premier League?
– One can only positively assess the performance of Shakhtar under the leadership of Jovićević, especially in the Champions League. The team is gaining momentum in the Premier League. I think that the Pitmen could go further in the Champions League. But on the other hand, there are more chances to compete in the playoffs of the Europa League and go as far as possible. Yes, we talked with Jovicevich. He said that there is a lot of work to do and that he really enjoys working with such players at Shakhtar.
– What do the Croatian media write about Jovićević?
– In Croatia, after the Champions League matches, they always write about how the Jovićević team performs in European competition. He was mostly praised because Shakhtar performed well in the Champions League.
– Dinamo Zagreb started with a victory in the Champions League group stage, but ended up finishing fourth in the group. What can you say about Dynamo?
– Yes, Dinamo Zagreb got off to a very successful start. I don’t think this is the first time this has happened. And this season they won in the first round, but no more success. As a result, Dynamo Zagreb didn’t make it out of the group. But their main task is to reach the group stage of the Champions League. Therefore, we can still say that they have a good euro season.
– How do you like the draw? Dnepr-1 caught AEK Larnaca, and Shakhtar – Rennes. These are both teams that Dynamo played with in the Europa League.
– For Dnepr-1, AEK will be an irritant. The Dnipro team lost to them in the Europa League qualification. I think it will be a very interesting matchup. I hope that Dnepr-1 will be able to take revenge. Shakhtar, I also think that there is every chance to fight for the exit further. Yes, Rennes are a good team, but I think Shakhtar can handle them, given the Pitmen’s performance this Champions League season.
– Comment on the UEFA Youth League draw. The miner will play with your native Hajduk. What are your expectations from this match?
– Yes, it will be very interesting to watch the match between Shakhtar and Hajduk. I think that Shakhtar (U-19) has a very good school. Hajduk also has very interesting guys in the roster. So it will be very interesting. I will, of course, root for my native club Hajduk and hope that they will beat Shakhtar.
