Bayer Leverkusen striker Serdar Azmoun was included in the Iranian national football team for the World Cup in Qatar, according to to place Iranian Football Federation.
At the beginning of October, the striker injured his calf before the Champions League game against Porto. The club then announced that the player would miss six to eight weeks. According to Iranwire, the country’s sports ministry pressured head coach Carlos Queiroz not to include the striker in the World Cup roster due to his support for anti-government protests in Iran.
