One less candidate for bench U: Beñat San José returns to Bolívar de La Paz

The Basque coach, one of the options Azul Azul was considering for 2023, returns to Bolivia’s biggest club, where he has already been a double champion.

After finalizing the tenure in the first division, the University of Chile is focusing on the search for its new coach, before the 2023 season. Sebastián Miranda will return to his work in the youth categories. For this reason, the casting of Azul Azul is in progress and one of the names that was considered at the table led by Michael Clark was that of Benat San Jose. However, this option was abandoned because the Spaniard has a new challenge, in a neighboring country.

The Basque will assume the bench of Bolívar de La Paz, the biggest team in Bolivia, where he has already been and left a good impression, especially for the championships he won in the highlands.

“Back home. We are very happy to welcome Professor Beñat San José, double champion with the club. Together we are going for many more joys” released the light blue board, welcoming former Deportes Antofagasta and Universidad Católica DT, who arrives to replace Brazilian Antonio Carlos ‘Zago’.

Beñat took a successful first step in the Santa Cruz team, between 2016 and 2017, after his stay with the Pumas. In fact, the coach took goalkeeper Matías Dituro with him to Bolivia, with whom he would later return to UC. Strictly speaking, it was the trainer who requested the incorporation of the guard at the strip store. He was Bolivian champion of the 2017 Apertura and Clausura, two of the four titles he won in his career as a strategist.

The course of the native of San Sebastián as a technical manager has been very itinerant. After being Chilean football champion with the Crusaders, in 2018, he left for the United Arab Emirates, where he directed Al Nassr, in 2019. Then, between 2019 and 2021, he was in Eupen in Belgium. His last stop as DT was Mazatlán in Mexico, between 2021 and 2022.

Thus, San José is removed from the list of alternatives to be the next coach of the U, which continues its search. Another of those highlighted by Clark and company is the Argentinian Mariano Soso which will not continue to O’Higgins de Rancagua.

Although there is no technical chief yet, the blues confirmed their first addition for next year during the week. It is the lateral Juan Pablo Gómez, coming from Curicó Unido.
