In his opinion, even in conditions of war, the country must continue to live.
Former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrey Shevchenko shared his opinion on the future of the country’s football championship against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Shevchenko believes that even in the conditions of war, a solution must be found in order for football in Ukraine to continue to exist.
“I couldn’t even imagine that [война] may happen. But it happened, each of us understands this, and today everything must be done to repulse them, to drive them out of our land. Today, all the forces are directed towards this – our country, human forces, our army, ”Shevchenko said.
“Whatever the shocks, life situations, life must be lived. I see how our people have united. Yes, it will be a very difficult war for us, there will be heavy losses, it is hard to even think about the losses that already exist and are taking place in the war, our guys are dying. Each of us today is fighting for the future: our children, our land, our country. Life is such that it gives very difficult trials for all of us. As a nation, we will become even stronger.”
“Is the championship possible in a war? We need to find a way to balance it all. I think the country must live. It all depends on what the critical situation will be. Today it is very difficult, but part of our land was liberated, we pushed the enemy back. The official games of the Ukrainian national team will begin soon, and this is a very important event – first of all, for the whole nation, for the fans, in general for every player. And regardless of the result, I am sure that the coaching staff and the players will do everything to ensure that the team is prepared and performs at its maximum. They will give their all, and we will only be proud of the fact that they will do it to the maximum of their capabilities.
“And of course, you need to think about how to save football, what to do next, because, once again, you need to find a balance. Need to think, plan, go out and [принимать] joint decision. We all understand very well that sport cannot be stopped, it would be wrong to stop it. But you need to find a certain balance so that all these structures work, and only for the good of the country.”
The day before, Shevchenko became the first ambassador of UNITED24, Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidential initiative, which is designed to help Ukraine in the fight against Russian military aggression.
Ukraine resists full-scale Russian invasion 85th day. Due to the attack of the Russians, all football competitions in Ukraine were completed ahead of schedule.
Earlier it was reported that the next season of the Ukrainian Football Championship could start in Turkey or Poland.
