Infantino: Went to North Korea a few years ago to ask if they were ready to host the Women’s World Cup

Shared with South Korea

The president FIFA Gianni Infantino spoke about his visit to North Korea a few years ago, during which he invited the country to host the world championship among women’s teams.

FIFA is an international football organization. We are footballers, not politicians, and we want to bring people together. Any country can host an event. If North Korea wants to accept something…”

“I actually went to North Korea a few years ago to ask the North Koreans if they were ready to host part of the Women’s World Cup with South Korea. I didn’t succeed, but I would repeat 100 more times if it helped.”

“Only interaction can bring real change. We are a global organization and we want to remain an organization that brings the world together.”

“I remain convinced that this World Cup [в Катаре] will open the eyes of many people from the Western world to the Arab world. We live in the same world, we must live together. We must understand each other, but also understand that we are also different, with different beliefs, different histories, different origins, but one world. And we have to get along with each other.”

Earlier, FIFA appealed to all 32 participants in the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar with an appeal not to raise political issues during the tournament. Infantino also called on Ukraine and the Russian Federation to cease fire during the 2022 World Cup.

The Association of Professional Football Players called for players to be given the right to vote during the elections of the host countries of major tournaments. FIFPro note that in Qatar, discrimination against various people continues and human rights are violated.

The 2022 Men’s World Cup will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18. The 2023 Women’s World Cup will take place from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
