The Dnipro team broke away from the Pitmen by 8 points
Mentor SC Dnepr-1 Alexander Kucher commented on the strong-willed victory over Shakhtar (2:1) in the 14th round of the UPL. According to him, the triumph over the Pitmen was very necessary in the current standings.
“It was an interesting game. We were preparing for this match, because everyone understood that, as they said, this was a first-round match. It could be different. Teams that love to play football opposed, and everyone wanted to show a good game, plus – the standings spoke for themselves, so the match was, of course, fundamental. There were many moments, there was tension.”
“At first we missed. Yes, I will say that Mudrik needs to pay a lot of attention, because he stretched from the middle of the field and scored a goal. But the guys are great! They did not fall apart after a missed goal, but played the way we agreed. We restored the balance, we could still score in the first half, when we played well with set pieces, and luck was on Shakhtar’s side.”
“However, we managed to score in the second half and the game was under our control, as Shakhtar did not cause us any problems. At the same time, the Pitmen are a good team, we played well positionally and did not fall into the penalty area. The guys are great, and I am very grateful to them. A very difficult and very necessary victory for us was, of course, based on the standings in the tournament.”
“Shakhtar is a very good team, a giant of Ukrainian and European football, who knows how to play football and there are very good performers. Of course, they prepared for this, that they control the ball, but today I will not say that they controlled it strongly. Somewhere plus or minus smooth control of the ball was. We also don’t hit him anywhere, but we try to play football and we succeed a little.”
Dnipro-1 continues to lead in the standings of the championship of Ukraine. Dnipro are ahead of Shakhtar by 8 points, which is in second place. In the next round of the Ukrainian Championship, Kucher’s team will play against Oleksandriya.
