Soon Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich will officially stop owning the London club.
The saga of selling Chelsea to new owners seems to be over. According to France 24, the UK government allowed Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich to sell the club.
Note that the English Premier League approved the deal on Tuesday, May 24. However, for the final takeover of the football club by a consortium led by Todd Boely, a license from the UK government is required. And on Wednesday, the London official gave a go-ahead to buy a team from sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Nadine Dorris said she licensed the deal on Tuesday night, shortly after it received Premier League approval.
“We are pleased that the proceeds from the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or the others who have been sanctioned. Given the sanctions we have imposed on those associated with Putin and the bloody invasion of Ukraine, the long -term future of the club is possible just make sure there is a new owner, ”Dorris wrote.
Note that officials are in a hurry to make a decision, as Chelsea will not reach the deadlines for registration for football competitions next season. The Premier League will approve the final application on May 31.
Recall that the new owners paid for Chelsea 3.1 billion dollars. Abramovich sold the club in early March, before he was handed British sanctions for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
