Mikolenko: Matches like with Scotland are won with passion and desire. This we have – more than enough

On June 1, Ukraine will play with the Scots in the playoffs of the 2022 World Cup qualification

Defender of Everton and the national team of Ukraine Vitaly Mikolenko spoke about his emotions after arriving in the national team.

Mikolenko joined the national team this week. Oleksandr Petrakov’s team continues to prepare for the match with Scotland in the play-off semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup qualification, which will take place on June 1.

“A little tired after the road, but now I’m happy. Even my hands were shaking, so I was glad to see everyone, ”Mikolenko admitted.

“I was not in the national team for nine months, the last time I saw each other was in September. Feelings are slightly different than when I came from Dynamo. There are a lot of teammates there, you saw each other every day. And then he came when he had not seen anyone for a long time. I’m very bored.”

“Match with Scotland? Yes, this is a very strong opponent. But such matches are won with the soul. Physically and tactically, we must be ready. However, I repeat, such matches are won by soul and desire. And we have more than enough of that.”

“The first month of the war was difficult mentally, but I trained and disconnected from everything for a short time. This helped me a lot. Just like teammates. Support for Ukrainians from ordinary people in England is simply insane. Indeed, one must see how the British love the Ukrainians.”

“Now we have our own front. Football is unpredictable. I can definitely promise that we will fight until the last minute.”

In preparation for the match with Scotland, the Ukrainian national team held three sparring matches against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2:1), Rijeka (1:1) and Empoli (3:1).

Before the game in Glasgow, the team of Alexander Petrakov will not play additional test matches, limiting themselves to a two-way game on Thursday, May 26.
