The legendary midfielder decided to focus on playing for Catalan Barcelona.
Sergio Busquets decided to end his career with the national team. He announced it on social media. The legendary midfielder, who has 143 caps to his name for Spain, thanked everyone who helped him realize himself in the team.
“Hello everyone! I want to announce that after almost 15 years and 143 matches, it’s time to say goodbye to the national team.
I want to thank everyone who has come with me on this long journey. Starting with Vicente del Bosque, who gave me my debut, and ending with Luis Enrique, thanks to whom I enjoyed myself until the last second. I also want to thank Julen Lopetegui, Fernando Hierro and Robert Moreno for their trust, as well as all the coaches who worked at their headquarters.
And, of course, I want to thank all my teammates, who fought alongside me to bring our team to its rightful place. Sometimes we have more success, sometimes less, but we always give it our all and we play with pride.
I don’t want to forget about a single person who is in the background, but still plays a very important role. These are physiotherapists, doctors, equipment repairers, delegates, nutritionists, staff, journalists, security, people who come with us, and so on. I also want to thank all the people and employees I met along the way. You made it so special.
Thanks to all the fans for their daily support, especially when things didn’t go as we expected. In times like these, we need you more, unity is most important. Thank you all!
And, of course, the most important thing is my family. Thank you for always supporting me and making all my decisions, sharing this path with me when I was away for days. You always made me feel like I was playing my best football.
It’s an honor for me to represent my country and bring it to the highest level, to be world and European champion, to be captain and play so many matches, with more or less success, but always giving my best and putting all my energy to make everything better and make everyone feel how important they are: helping everyone and working for the same goal, with a unique, unforgettable and historic experience,” wrote Busquets.
Remember that Sergio Busquets represents Catalan Barcelona. The midfielder made his debut for the national team in 2009, and with it won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, the final of which was held in Kyiv.
We will remind, earlier due to the loss of the national team of Morocco, the head coach of the national team of Spain, Luis Enrique, lost his position.
