Former Russian youth team coach Igor Kolyvanov has expressed his displeasure with the attitude of the main national team players to friendly matches.
In November, the Russian team played two away matches against Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Both meetings ended in a draw – 0:0. In September, the Russian national team met the Kyrgyzstan team and won (2:1).
– To a certain extent, I can understand our players, but it doesn’t really fit into my head. When (Valery) Karpin invites young players, they have to go out and prove themselves. All of Russia watches them, it’s not that often that we have international matches. If you want to get a foothold, you have to try to prove that you deserve to be called up to the national team.
It seems that the players come from the clubs where they run and select and want to play and die on the pitch, while the team somehow plays slowly. It is not clear that they want to show anything. When you go out to the anthem of Russia, for our flag, for your motherland, you have to fight. It is clear that not everything can work out, but it is impossible to play the wrong type of football in which you want to play inert.
When you’re 19-20 and playing for the national team, come out and show what you can do. Make sure to be applauded. We didn’t create moments, when did that happen? It’s clear that the whole game can’t be attacked, but we have young players with both goals and outplays. And then they played and played. How it happened, how it happened.
My heart was pounding, every time I went out for the national team, especially when the anthem sounded, I had goosebumps in my body, tears in my eyes. These emotions still live in the heart,” Kolyvanov said on All About the Main on MATCH PREMIER.
Russian national teams and clubs have been suspended by FIFA and UEFA from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
