Big football in the capital of Ukraine: “red” Kyiv and Karius’ mistakes

Four years ago, the NSC Olimpiyskiy hosted the Champions League final.

On May 26, 2018, Real Madrid and Liverpool met for the last time in the Champions League final. And the decisive match itself was held for the first time in the capital of Ukraine. Four years ago, Real Madrid won the 13th and so far the last European Cup in its history by beating Liverpool.

Along the way, the Madrid club set several records: Madrid were the first of the clubs to win the Champions League three times in a row, and Creamy mentor Zinedine Zidane became the first coach to achieve such an achievement.

Sport Arena recalled how one of the main matches in the history of the NSC Olimpiyskiy took place.

Actually, the football festival in Kyiv dragged on for a whole week. Numerous activities, the arrival of world football stars who took part in the exhibition tournament on Khreshchatyk, the final of the Women’s Champions League, which was won by Lyon, and, in fact, the main match of European club football.

For a couple of days, the capital of Ukraine was painted mainly in red – there were several times more Liverpool fans than Real Madrid fans. Shevchenko Park, which houses a fan zone for fans of the English team, has become the noisiest place in the city, and apartment rental prices in Kyiv have skyrocketed, becoming an occasion for sharp publications in foreign media.

Well, the final was remembered by the colorful opening ceremony with the performance of Dua Lipa, the monstrous mistakes of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, Gareth Bale’s double.
