US passes equal pay bill for women and men on national teams

The confrontation began with the US women’s soccer team

The US House of Representatives passed a bill to equal pay for men and women in national teams. The act was previously passed unanimously by the Senate and is now sent for President Joe Biden’s signature.

The law provides that athletes representing the United States at the international level receive equal pay for their sport, regardless of gender. The act covers more than 50 sports, the implementation of the law will be controlled by the US NOC.

The law was first promoted by female players of the national team. Athletes indicated that they perform equal work and work for the same employer as male football players.

Note that Joe Biden, while still a presidential candidate, threatened to deprive the American Football Federation of funding if they did not establish equal payments to the players of the men’s and women’s teams.

The US Women’s Team is the most successful team in Women’s World Cup history with four titles. The last American Cup was won at the World Cup in 2019.
