French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castera has accused Argentine players of being ‘inelegant winners’ and ‘vulgar’ for making fun of the French striker Kyliana Mbappe after winning the World Cup final.
During the World Cup final in Qatar Argentina beat the French on penalties (3: 3, 4: 2 – in pen.). After the match in the locker room, Argentine soccer players mentioned Mbappe in their playful chants, and later, during the festivities in Buenos Aires, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez held a baby-shaped doll with Mbappe’s face in his hands.
As much as our France team knew how to lose with panache, the way in which this Argentinian team acted after the victory was not worthy of the match we saw.
It’s just vulgar, inappropriate, really inappropriate. This Emiliano Martinez is nothing special. It was quite pathetic,” Udea-Kastera told RTL.
