Russian referee Sergei Karasev admitted he really misses working on Champions League and Europa League fixtures.
Previously, FIFA and UEFA stopped appointing Russian referees for international matches due to the situation in Ukraine.
– Since 2011, I started to referee the Europa League, then the Champions League. You quickly get used to good things, but it’s hard to live without them. I really miss the Champions League. I listen to the anthem and tears well up. I look and I think: we have just judged there. There were many times when I turned off the broadcast. Just because I’m worried,” Karasev told RB Sport.
