The head of the RFU refereeing committee praised the work of the referees in the first part of the season at “four”

Chairman of the Referees Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Pavel Kamantsev in an interview with , he said that he rated the work of the referees of the Russian Premier League (RPL) in the first part of the season at “four”, when the judges were overloaded, at the end of September – in October .

In the first part of the season, RPL clubs played 17 rounds in the Russian Championship and six in the Russian Cup. The season will resume at the end of February 2023.

– Has the analysis of the work of the referees in the first part of the season been carried out? Have you communicated with the referees to summarize the results?

– No, the communication has not yet taken place – it will be at the rally. We try not to celebrate good or bad times before the New Year. Let people rest.

By the way, we held 17 rounds of the RPL and 6 rounds of the group stage of the Russian Cup, one thing can be said: with the excessive workload we had for the first time in a very long time, and with the limited number of referees we have thanks to the use of VAR, I believe we have spent this part of the season with dignity.

There are errors, including some pretty serious errors, but for almost every one of them we have a reasonable explanation and their reasons. This is often associated with complicated logistics, with a complicated schedule. We were ahead in the quality of bug fixes, we have very good dynamics, but, unfortunately, at the end of September – in October, we returned to the dynamics of the last championship.

We analyzed why there was such a deterioration in quality and an increase in the number of errors, and we realized that this was due precisely to the fact that at that time the judges had an overload when they judged every weekend and in the middle of the week. Referees who made mistakes simply didn’t have time to prepare for games.

– Rather “physics” or psychology?

– I think it’s more psychology, although “physics”, of course, is related to psychology. Just a lack of preparation, which objectively it was. On the one hand, we don’t want to hang a medal on our chest for going through a difficult schedule, but I think we can put a “four” for refereeing.

If we had 17 championship rounds and the usual Cup format with so many errors, it would be possible to recognize the work of the referees in this part of the season as only satisfactory, because there is no positive dynamic. However, if you consider that we maintained an average quality of refereeing in more difficult conditions, then we took a half step forward.

I insist on the fact that we will only draw definitive conclusions after the end of the championship, since no one is globally interested in what happened during the 17th round. Everyone is interested in the 30th round, the Cup final and the quality of the refereeing throughout this period.
