The Japan Football Association (JFA) has extended the contract with the head coach of the national team Hajime Moriyasu. The new agreement runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup cycle.
The specialist headed the team in the summer of 2018, having previously worked as an assistant coach at the 2018 World Cup. Together with the main team, Moriyasu combined work with the youth team.
Under his leadership, the Blue Samurai reached the final of the 2019 Asian Cup, where they lost to Qatar. At the last World Cup 2022, Japan reached the 1/8 final stage, where they lost to Croatia in a penalty shootout.
The Japanese team previously qualified for the next Asian Cup, which will be held in China from June 16 to July 16, 2023.
