“Deep down, I can’t settle for 13th place. But given our abilities, I recognize the result as worthy” — CEO of Fakel

Torch “can take credit for the result of the first part of the season, says general director of Voronezh football club Roman Askhabadze .

Fakel is 13th in the Russian Championship standings with 13 points in 17 innings. The team finished the Russian Cup fight after the RPL Way group stage, becoming fourth in the group along with Spartak, Zenit and Wings of the Soviets.

— If you were told in December last year how 2022 would go for Fakel, what would you think?

“I would be completely satisfied. If I had been told in December 2021 that Fakel would play in the RPL next season, that would trump everything else. Any roughness, any questions. Torch is in the Premier League, everything else is just details, moments of work.

I can’t settle for 13th place in me. But given the opportunities we have, I recognize that the result of the first part of the season is quite worthy. Allow me to be criticized, but today our performance can rightly be described as follows. We saw how hard it was for the team. How she acquired this emotional mood every time, being in difficult conditions from the point of view of even basic logistics. Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Voronezh are the three cities with closed airports. But the clubs in the first two cities have a wealth of experience playing in the RPL. And we are still newbies. And we fly by regular planes. Perhaps the only ones in the league. We can’t afford a charter. It’s very difficult to get on the right emotional footing and systematically prepare for the game when your schedule is half built on the basis of logistics. When you have to go to Moscow, spend the night there and fly out the next morning, the whole drive system breaks down.

Fans are recklessly jumping to conclusions based solely on what they’ve seen on TV or at the stadium. And we live in those realities. And it is specified that the team has less time than its opponents to prepare for the match and recover after it. I don’t want to cry, but it’s worthy of sympathy and empathy,” Askhabadze said in an interview with the club’s press service.
