The tribute to the former player had already been confirmed at the end of last week by the president of the club’s Deliberative Council, Celso Jatene, during a live on the YouTube channel “Soul Santista”.

“The crown (in honor of Pelé) is already on the 2023 shirt. Santos will play in 2023 with the crown on the badge. The two stars and crown above the badge,” Jatene said.
This Tuesday, the 27th, the club published a photo of the new shield, which will carry a crown positioned above the badge, in reference to the King of football. Pelé has been hospitalized at the Albert Einstein hospital, in São Paulo, since November 29th.
The news was announced during the media day of the under-20 team, which will compete in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. The grassroots football competition will debut the honor. The Meninos da Vila start the competition against São Raimundo-RR, on the next 4th, in Santo André.
The tribute to Pelé was proposed in Santos’ new statute and approved in November. “Santos will start to use in professional, amateur and futsal football matches, both in the men’s and women’s categories, in all their shirts, a crown over the existing stars of the world titles, as a permanent tribute to Edson Arantes do Nascimento, King Pele”, says the text of article 103.
